ToTheFront

ToTheFront is a small macOS menu bar utility that changes how app windows come forward.

When you click a background window, macOS can activate the app without bringing its other open windows with it. ToTheFront makes that behavior feel more consistent by promoting the app's open windows together.

What It Solves

This is for people who keep multiple windows open in apps like Finder, editors, terminals, and browsers.

Without ToTheFront:

  • You click a background window
  • The app activates
  • Other windows from that same app may stay buried

With ToTheFront:

  • You click a background window
  • The app comes forward in a more complete, predictable way

Features

  • Native macOS app built with Swift and AppKit
  • Lightweight menu bar utility
  • Enable or disable instantly
  • Optional app list modes: exclude selected apps, or include only selected apps
  • Optional Shift-key behavior: always active, Shift to activate, or Shift to bypass
  • Optional menu bar and Dock visibility controls

Why Use It

ToTheFront is meant to solve one specific annoyance without turning into a full window manager.

It does not try to tile windows, replace Spaces, or impose a different workflow. It simply makes app activation feel better for multi-window use.

Installation

  1. Download the latest DMG.
  2. Open it.
  3. Drag ToTheFront into Applications.
  4. Launch the app.

Privacy

ToTheFront is a local desktop utility. It does not require an account or a cloud service.

About

'To The Front' lets you control the window layering policy on your Mac. Clicking on a window brings all the windows in that app to the front, just like it did in classic Mac OS.
