## Project Status

The container project is currently under active development. Its stability, both for consuming the project as a Swift package and the `container` tool, is only guaranteed within patch versions, such as between 0.1.1 and 0.1.2. Minor version releases may include breaking changes until we reach a 1.0.0 release.
The container project is under active development and has reached a 1.x release. It is considered production-quality: both the tool and its Swift package APIs are suitable for production use on supported systems.

Within a major release, compatibility is maintained at the XPC API level, so older clients can communicate with a newer `container-apiserver`, and vice versa. Minor versions correspond to regular releases (currently monthly), while patch versions are reserved for fixes and hotfixes. See the [releases page](https://github.com/apple/container/releases) for details of recent updates.
