Decision

Recover the existing measurement foundation. Diagnostic-class records stay in Scient-owned central Cloudflare storage for 30 days; Essential/Product copies may use PostHog with truthful provider-managed retention wording. Diagnostics are central, not local-device-only. The owner subsequently approved default-on sharing when available, with saved preferences preserved.

Evidence and scope

Reconciles the historical readiness plan with the owner-approved September 6 recovery. Current implementation, local qualification, deployment, human review and release remain distinct. Original dirty worktrees are preserved. No production activation in this documentation PR.

Dependencies

Gateway and privacy notice: ScientFactory/ScientFactory-website#33. Desktop recovery is the companion codex/analytics-recovery-20260906 branch in ScientFactory/scient-desktop. Gateway validation and migrations precede the desktop release; human privacy/settings review and live synthetic qualification precede enabling production gates.

Documentation impact: Updated — docs/planning/product-measurement-and-analytics-plan.md.

AI assistance: Codex (GPT-5-based agent), Codex desktop harness.

Current owner decision

Record the single usage/reliability switch and missing-preference default, preserve saved Off/narrower choices, and retain the prepared notification disabled pending audience/timing selection. Notification disabling is independent of collection controls. Desktop #256 and website #33 own implementation/privacy. Whitespace and source-consistency checks passed; no production activation or promotion of historical evidence.
