💡 What: Introduced a thread-safe lazy-initialization and caching mechanism for discovered google.Credentials using sync.Mutex and a package-level variable in internal/run/auth/auth.go. Additionally, added caching-specific unit and benchmark tests in internal/run/auth/auth_test.go.

🎯 Why: Calling auth.GetIDToken repeatedly (especially across concurrent proxy request boundaries) triggered google.FindDefaultCredentials each time. This initiated expensive filesystem access, environment scans, and GCP Metadata Server queries, causing a ~300ms overhead latency bottleneck per request.

📊 Impact: The retrieval latency has been reduced from several hundred milliseconds (due to discovery and file I/O operations) to ~38 nanoseconds per subsequent call.

🔬 Measurement: Verify using the new unit test and benchmark test in internal/run/auth/auth_test.go:

  • Run tests: go test -v ./internal/run/auth/...
  • Run benchmark: go test -bench=BenchmarkGetIDToken ./internal/run/auth/...
