openHAB Smart Home Configuration and Home Automation Example

This is a sanitized, reusable openHAB 5 smart home configuration for home automation, building automation and DIY IoT projects. It contains practical openHAB Things, Items, rules, JavaScript automations, sitemaps and scripts for MQTT, Tasmota, Chromecast, WLED, SMA energy monitoring, solar forecasting, heating, sensors, cameras and robot devices.

The project is useful as an openHAB example configuration, a starting point for openHAB rules and DSL, and a reference for smart home automation in German or English environments.

The configuration in this repository is provided under the MIT License. This does not replace or relicense openHAB itself or third-party components; their original licenses continue to apply.

Topics covered include openHAB configuration, openHAB 5 rules and Things, home automation, smart home, Hausautomation, Gebäudeautomation, MQTT, Tasmota, Chromecast, WLED, SMA energy monitoring, SolarForecast, heating automation and DIY IoT.

Project website: openHAB Smart Home Configuration

What was removed or replaced:

  • passwords, tokens, API keys, usernames, email addresses, MAC addresses and other secrets
  • personal names, calendar names and device labels that identified residents
  • location names, addresses, postal codes, GPS coordinates and private network details
  • runtime data, auth caches, debug dumps, generated feeds, backups and vendored dependencies

Before using this setup yourself:

  • replace placeholder values in services/ and things/
  • restore your own credentials locally instead of committing them
  • review html/ helper scripts before enabling any external sync jobs
