4.6.8

@Basjohn Basjohn released this 15 Jul 03:00

It's just like 4.6.7 except all that shit I was putting off is fixed. Probably fixed. Mostly.

It's slightly prettier now so just fucking take it and stop reading my emails.

4.6.7

@Basjohn Basjohn released this 14 Jul 15:15

Quite a doozy of changes but for those that are not under the hood, Abandonment Issues (Your Backlog) is now live as the second Steam Widget of the family.

image

NEW SAUCE

  • Abandonment Issues. Crawls through your backlog and gently rotates through entries you have genuinely not spent time with (fully cusomizable parameters in settings). Attempts to guilt you into fixing that. Double click to quickly run to the next entry if you are overcome with feeling.

FIXED SAUCE

  • Achievement Pulse was getting stuck on one game and while I appreciate its fine taste for Baldur's Gate 3, now the most recent slot properly tracks the literal most recent item.

  • Achievement Pulse also now has a portrait option for artwork to better match Abandonment.

KNOWN ISSUES

  • As of posting this I am aware that Achievement Pulse's padding on the sides got farked at some point, this will be fixed when I next lose the will to live. This update has a higher priority because of fixing the actual mechanisms.

  • Abandonment's default colour accent is orange instead of the boring white I usually deal with, you can change this in settings until I sort my defaults tooling out.

Is there a point Github will get mad at all these 10mb pngs from hell? Then again it fucks me on sharing gifs/webp when trying to show any animations off, so we're probably even in the faeces festival.

Added artwork for the most recent achievement, resdesigned the capsules and did a shit ton of backend work for the remaining Steam widgets that will hopefully not look like ass!

That was the changelog, what do you expect to see here?!

@Basjohn Basjohn released this 10 Jul 13:18

Did it finally happen?! Actually yes. First Steam Widget has landed and been polished! Also introduced a nice layout save/load system I should probably document at some stage but the readme feels like work and writing useless shit here is so much more appealing.

What glorious new bugs await you?!?

NEW SAUCE

Your settings are likely to be reset to defaults on this release! Export from About before installing and Import after if they matter to you or just edit them again afterwards. This happened because of a lazy ass tool I made for myself to edit settings cleaner going forward and is thus a rather selfish whoops.

  • Steam Integration has finally landed. I'm only exposing the first widget of four planned now because....it's the only one done. Steam needs to double Auth just once in settings (Your Steam ID and you make a Web API Key for yourself) which I've tried to make the pop up dialog's walk you through.

  • Achievement Pulse. This is the first Steam widget for the thing other people care about for some reason. You can see it in the new screenshot, it's a customisable (AS IS EVERYTHING IN THIS APP BY ELDRITCH LAW) widget tracking a Steam game of your choice or your Most Recent in terms of achievements. It has sexy art pulled from your game and took a deceptively long time to cobble together. In settings you can change the game to your other recent entries or enter an appid manually if you are a fancy bitch.

  • About Linking: These widgets are all read only (I may add game launch via click one day if someone wants it or if I just feel weird but even that isn't really a write) and your ID/Web API Key are essentially useless outside of reading data, even then I encrypt it regardless. At no point is your account password dealt with or touched in the entire process, nor will it every be. Web API requires a Steam Guard acceptance to setup but this key is YOUR KEY not mine or the apps and again, no one can do anything with it. I'm only blathering here because I would be paranoid too.

  • Layout Slot System! This is entirely under the hood. Save your current layout and widget set using Shift+number (Eg Shift+1 to Save to slot 1) and load it by just pressing the number. Simple but extremely useful for me, the fuck you gonna use it for I don't know.

All that stuff I said was working and fixed last time? Totally this time!

Mostly.

Being your own one and only QA is a bit of bitch.

Untitled-4BR
  • Performance goals completely met somehow, someway.

  • Added another source to the lazy "Just Make It Work" button and fixed it from going batshit and downloading the whole internet when used for the first time.

  • More sassy Reddit fixes basically building an entire system around cobbling together good cache's from its occasionally piss results.

Guess which multi-billion dollar API request email ignoring company just changed their feed system in the last 12h???

Fucking Reddit just cannot let a feature work.

image
  • Now punching HTML for Reddit if it whines, not ideal, might not last, might not even be reliable already but Reddit sort of give no options so fuck it. Default is still polite and slow RSS, SRPSS gets ruder and more violent with each failure behind the scenes.

  • Performance adjustments are ongoing in my weird race to let a screensaver achieve something close to 165fps before our inevitable fungal overgrowth.

  • Import/Export Settings updated to be current. Import/Export Visualizer Presets added so you can easily save better presets than mine and bring them back after updates. (About in Settings)

  • Small improvements to recovering from sleeping monitor states and those you intentionally turned off to fuck with me.

How do these builds get smaller when I keep adding shit?!

@Basjohn Basjohn released this 28 Jun 22:24

How did we jump to 4.4.1? Massive new features?! No not really I just brain blipped numbers together and am posting this to cover up my mistake.

Small fixes in this release, worth at least enough to be a stable build.

  • Oscilloscope went to rehab and now functions again, looks derpy, but functions and er, you can make your own damn presets.
    (Which is why my precious Sinewave is in the screenshot instead of Oscilloscope)

  • Small issue where if you middle-clicked to hotswap presets it would lose artist/track data fixed.

  • More edit mode fixes and a basic UX enhancement with centering guidelines added.

  • Context menu visualizer swap works on any display now, not just the one with a visualizer.

  • Reddit still updates more regularly now but still slowly to avoid wrath of the company that ignores its fucking emails about api keys.

There is still a remaining rare edge case I'm chasing where performance drops to 60fps after edit mode saves sometimes, solved by just closing and reopening the app, but worth solving, just a god damn intermittent bastard and is the priority before I get back to any feature work.

Another mostly bugfix/performance/reliability release as I go through old code for piss poor design whoopsies.

image

I should probably update the Readme one day because as we all know everyone reads those.

Massive release but boring reasons, serious fixes to functionality, background work and performance, also fuck you bubble visualizer mode.

NEW SAUCE

  • Nothing, or maybe nothing. I'm likely forgetting and not just fucking with you.

FIXED SAUCE

  • Reddit works again. Reddit changed a lot of their restrictions so now we have a different multi-provider approach, the default of which works and is rather conservative about pulling posts in order to keep the app in good standing until they ACTUALLY REPLY TO MY EMAILS ABOUT AN API KEY. Worst case we just hope they don't fuck around with core restrictions yet again on some random day of the week.

  • Restored Reddit and Gmail length/vertical growth based on your chosen post count when in CUSTOM/EDIT mode.

  • Reworked Clock entirely so digital is now as reliable as analogue, scaling works for both, double click hotswap works in CUSTOM mode as well and you can even have digital on one display and analogue on another because you're weird as shit.

  • Reworked some safeguards for the visualizer going missing in Custom and cases where it would duplicate if you turned on one display slower than your other display.

  • Completely reworked the rss image downloading to actually respect your cache and not greedily hoard shit like a fucking goblin.

  • Spectrum Visualizer Mode now has a great visual only smoothing built in to prevent flicker but stay reactive. Though Preset 1/Organs is still the only preset I've made that isn't shit, but hell we have a full shape editor etc, make your own in custom! Then give it to me so we can ship less shitty defaults!

  • Bubble. God damn you Bubble. Bubble needed so many fixes it has been two weeks of utter misery. First it was crashing performance. Then I had to rewrite the entire reactivity and drift logic. Added in "Group Drift" as well so drifts can feel more wholistic and they are now pushed more by transient (English: BIG LOUD BANG BANG NOISE RARAWR) sounds, meaning (depending on preset settings) they'll drift more when songs get louder. I'm updating the old presets to use the newer settings better but some might be lacklustre in the release for a little while as I find the best combinations.

  • Weather cache was lobotomising itself regularly.

FUTURE SAUCE

  • I just want to curl into a ball for a bit and not have a third party fuck shit up. Focus will likely be fixing hidden worms for a bit before I can confidently add new widgets I've been planning on.

ShittyRandomPhotoScreenSaver 4.1

@Basjohn Basjohn released this 13 Jun 04:31

And finally a new release with newly broken features!

image

Well, I partially kid which is the only type of child-human I'm comfortable around while I stalk the dumpsters outside planned parenthoods for adrenochrome.

The Goodening

  • There were a SHIT-TON of Geometric fixes needed for edit mode that slipped by. Most related to shrinking widgets. These have been slowly and painfully solved one by one but as is the nature of bugs and a project no one but me uses, there will probably be surprises. That said, resizing and rearrangements should work better than ever, be reliable and have no weird random deformation shit. (Reset to non-custom and rearrange if you are coming from an older version)

  • Bubble and Spectrum Visualizer Modes recieved a stupendous amount of time and effort improving them. Bubble should now react better in loud choruses and Spectrum should flicker less or not at all.

  • Clock has a fancy as shit optional border in analogue mode now. Yay.

  • Introduced smart cache timestamp based rate limiting for Reddit and Gmail. Gmail working as well as always but Reddit is a...........funny story.

The UnGoodeningeration

  • Turns out running hundreds of test scripts over months is enough to push Reddit's limits even with my old rate limiter. The application has been blocked by Reddit themselves, possibly temporarily, I suggest disabling the Reddit widget for now. I have applied to use their rather limited and extremely selective API.

They have not responded yet, this is awkward.

Future plans remain unfucking whatever this release secretly fucked as well as a pipedream feature of a Calendar widget, ideally one that could mimic/draw from/surpass Steam's new personalized calendar data.
