Security Research & Interoperability Engineering

We reverse engineer proprietary software to build open interoperability specs — legally, methodically, and in the open.

What We Do

  • Clean-Room Reverse Engineering — We analyze closed-source binaries and produce behavioral specifications that developers can implement from without legal risk. Strict dirty-room/clean-room separation ensures compliance with DMCA 1201(f) and EU Software Directive Art. 6.

  • Wine API Specifications — Our flagship effort targets Windows DLLs with missing or stubbed Wine implementations. We document what APIs do — inputs, outputs, error codes, state machines — so Wine contributors can write compatible code from spec alone.

  • Tooling & Automation — We build and maintain tooling around Ghidra, MCP integrations, and AI-assisted RE workflows to accelerate specification work. Our tools are open source and available for anyone to use in their own projects.

  • AI Skills & Guides — We publish step-by-step AI skill documents that walk you through the entire RE-to-spec pipeline. Whether you're new to reverse engineering or looking to streamline your workflow, these skills give you a repeatable, structured process you can follow from target selection through final spec verification.

Principles

Legal first Every spec goes through clean-room review. Zero decompiler artifacts in public output.
Behavioral, not structural We document what software does, never how the binary implements it.
Open specs, open process Specifications are Apache-2.0 licensed and designed for upstream contribution.

Get Involved

We welcome contributors at all experience levels — from seasoned reverse engineers to first-time spec reviewers. If you're interested in Wine compatibility, interoperability research, or clean-room RE methodology, check out our repositories and open issues.
