Debian package

@stephanlachnit libmathtext, a library within this repo, is a dependency of ROOT but is not part of Debian. Could it be potentially added?

It would be a small step towards root-project/root#19265

In principle yes, but I've never worked with SCons tbh and don't know if that is easy to package. Maybe you want to give a spin? I can review the packging and sponsor the upload.

Would such a patch that ignores SCons be ok?

Shouldn't be an issue to add a patch. Maybe @yslai can add this simple CMake script and tag a release? That makes packaging much easier. If @yslai is not active anymore (last commit has been 10y ago), maybe this can be forked into the ROOT namespace?
