Need to avoid using the st-link connector to power the board. It causes all kinds of crazy issues I spent a whole day diagnosing with my scope and usb packet analyzer.
Using the FS OTG port for power seems to work fine and works fine with ST-LINK plugged in at the same time. Didn't test 5V external input but I am expecting that will work as well.
