Note that I've refactored my code, hope that doesn't DQ me.. I realized my painting logic was less than ideal (noticeable delay when rendering 50x50 matrix). Here's what I did to resolve it:

• added double buffering
• painting cells on-demand instead of the entire grid each time
  I also added some impressive, cutting-edge animation to the result message. Enjoy!

For some reason a toolwindow in Delphi just doesn't look right to me. The x button is jammed off to the right, you get these weird border artifacts.. I will occasionally use it though if the shorter title bar seems appropriate for some workflow. Anyway I just changed it to bsDialog instead, I think it looks better. FYI the two spinedits define grid width and height; changing the width value will also change the height value to match. However changing the height value does not change the width value, which allows the user to set custom dimensions (from 9x5 up to 50x50).
