Debug logs

There's a couple of cases in the codebase where except statements are straight up ignored. This should be changed to at least log them somewhere (maybe to a debug log) for troubleshooting. In addition some variables could do with logging, although not to the console where a user may get confused or concerned

I've seen a number of issues where critical logs are missed and this could definitely help out a lot

If someone wants to implement this then feel free, otherwise I'll pick it up when I can

Hi in the latest commits I made some small forms of debug logs. I'm wondering if you have ideas on improving it in any way? Thoughts?
