Jellyfin Extension

Hi again! I came across something called Jellyfin, an open-source Plex alternative. I thought I'd run it by you and see if filtering is possible through it? I found this here for creating plugins https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-plugin-template

My apologies if it isn't possible, just something I saw and wanted to see what you thought. It would be neat to be able to have everything in one HTPC program. Regardless, love the work you do! Thanks!

@fruiz500 I am also interested in filtering control of playback in Jellyfin (with fairly granular control). As a long-time programmer, I realize there are quite a few pieces needed to make this work properly. Recently, I have started using srt/whisper AI model to generate audio EDL files from my collection. This only addresses explicit language and phrases though at the moment, although I would like to train a model (or use a gpt model) to detect inappropriate phrases and innuendo that would otherwise be difficult to catch.

Anyway, I see our objectives as overlapping (if you are still working on this) and it would be great to be able to focus on the Jellyfin side and not worry about the skp/edl files. If this sounds like something you may be interested in collaborating on, let me know.

Hi Michael, Your idea of filtering content through a Jellyfin plugin is intriguing, but I'm afraid it greatly exceeds my programming ability. I'll help you in whatever way I can. Have you thought about doing the same through Plex or Kodi (also open source), which have a wider market share? Likewise, using AI to detect inappropriate material may be feasible, but I cannot begin to think of how it would be done. Language is harder to catch, but visual content is easy enough to detect by a person, and is of longer duration, so using AI there does not seem too urgent. One thing I'd like to do is extend VideoSkip (or something similar) to other hardware, such as streaming boxes and smart TVs. The problem here is the difficulty of loading a stream from any commercial source so its video and audio content can be controlled by the app. Let's stay in touch, Paco

Hello! I've actually been looking into making a plugin that adds Edit Decision List (EDL) functionality to Jellyfin (which can be used for muting and skipping sections of videos like VideoSkip does), but as of right now, Jellyfin's plugin APIs do not yet support programmatically muting or skipping, and no built-in functionality like Kodi has exists in Jellyfin yet either. While the introduction of the MediaSegments API in Jellyfin (added a couple months ago) brings us 1 step closer to making this a reality, there's still more functionality that needs to be introduced into Jellyfin.

About a year ago, I attempted to introduce some of the functionality into Jellyfin via pull request (before the introduction of MediaSegments), but it stagnated. Then, just a few days ago, I started up a discussion a few days ago about adding EDL functionality via MediaSegments. If I can make any more progress with the Jellyfin developers, I will let you know here. Feel free to voice your support over there too!

If you're still interested in this, I sat down w/ CLAUDE AI and created a plugin for jellyfin specifically to find .skp files with the same name as the file you're watching & to send those to the web client. Then, the web client will automatically mute, blur, blank, or skip based on the contents.

Downside is that you can only watch jellyfin thru the web browser at this time.
