This release marks a massive turning point for the app. We've completely overhauled the visual fidelity of the Library and Home feeds to match your muscle-memory from the real YouTube app. In addition, we've integrated native YouTube Login and squashed some severe, battery-draining bugs under the hood.
Here is a deep dive into every single new feature, enhancement, and fix included in this release:
- Native YouTube Account Linking: You can now seamlessly log into your actual YouTube/Google account natively within AirStream via the Account Settings menu.
- Intelligent Library Sync: Once logged in, AirStream automatically extracts your YouTube cookie and instantly synchronizes your real Subscriptions (Artists/Channels) and Liked Playlists directly into your local database, bridging the gap between your true YouTube account and the app's privacy-focused playback.
- Authentic Library Playlists Layout: Say goodbye to the old, stretched fallback background cards. The Library screen's playlist rows have been completely rewritten from scratch. Playlists now feature a perfectly proportioned 16:9 rounded thumbnail locked to the left side, with the playlist title and creator description neatly stacked to the right.
- Official "More Options" UI: We’ve integrated the official 3-dot vertical menu aligned cleanly to the far right of every playlist, identical to the standard YouTube app layout.
- Official Shorts Navigation Icon: The bottom navigation bar has received a premium upgrade. We’ve extracted and implemented the official, true-vector drawable for YouTube Shorts. It seamlessly scales, supports theme coloring, and instantly makes the app feel like a flagship media player.
- Restored 2x2 Shorts Grid: Shorts are no longer treated like standard trending videos on the Home feed. We've introduced a dedicated rendering branch that elegantly clusters Shorts into a beautiful 2x2 grid layout directly within your feed, conserving vertical screen space while giving you more rapid-fire content.
- Streamlined Home Feed Experience: We've decluttered the home screen by removing the persistent "Continue Watching" slides and generic playlist carousels from the top of the feed. When you open the app, you are now dropped directly into the video recommendations you actually want to see.
- Fixed Missing Playlist Thumbnails: We discovered and removed a legacy URL-parsing bug that was accidentally rejecting perfectly valid thumbnail images. Your Library screen will now dynamically load and cache beautiful, high-res thumbnails for all your synced playlists!
- CRITICAL FIX: Library "Not Responding" (ANR) Loop Resolved: We isolated a severe lifecycle bug where the app was accidentally launching thousands of duplicate background tasks to fetch playlists every time the screen refreshed. The networking logic has been safely bound to a single, efficient request.
- Guest Profile Fallback Logic: Fixed an edge case affecting users navigating the Library tab without being logged in. The UI now gracefully adapts to "Guest" mode without stalling or throwing backend authentication errors.
- Production-Ready Compilation (R8/OkHttp Fix): Resolved a complex build-time conflict affecting Release APKs. We've implemented specific Proguard rules to bridge this gap, resulting in a perfectly minified, lightweight, and blazing-fast Release APK.
