Not able to change text of node in IE

I follow the error to :

GraphCreator.prototype.selectElementContents = function(el) {
var range = document.createRange();
range.selectNodeContents(el);
var sel = window.getSelection();
sel.removeAllRanges();
sel.addRange(range);
};

sel.addRange gives unspecified error.

Have you noticed this? do you have any idea of what can be the issue?
