#6 Add an intro to the app on first time launch

Right now when app opens it directly opens the search bar

• So on 1st time open show a better UI as introduction
• Show a tutorial / walk through for existing features
• Have a nickname they can enter

This issue might link up with an upcoming issue to have a setting feature for the app

Could you please assign this issue to me? I’d like to work on it.

Description-

Add new setup feature that on first launch, show an introductory UI with a tutorial of existing features and a nickname setup, instead of directly opening the search bar; later integrate with app settings.

Objectives-

1. Implement a Welcome UI/page for first time user with introduction to use PathFinder
2. After introducing PathFinder open a form when user can enter their Nickname
3. Welcome page should navigate further to a guide/walkthrough of existing feature

My Approach-

1. Save a “first launch” flag in local storage and use it to verify if user is opening application for first time or is returning to it.
2. Navigate user to welcome page if firstLaunch == true, by using react-router
3. Use react-hook-form to make a future proof Nickname form
4. make a route leading to walkthrough of current features which will include text-image explanation and links to go to that feature
5. Once the welcome page is functional I will try to store “first launch” flag in Tauri’s native storage to persist flag even after web view is reset.

i have not created a CONTRIBUTION.md yet so would like to tell you to follow best practices -

• Fork the Repo, create a feature branch
• Work on the issue + test thoroughly
• Once you are happy with state of the work, submit a PR to main branch in the main repo
• I will review ASAP and then give any comments if needed
• after testing it if it is good enough, will merge and give you the accepted label

There is another issue that might get linked with this - here
see if you can also lay the foundations for that

both are related so linking that nickname with a setting section can help - so for now you can make the settings have an option to modify the global shortcut (which as of now is ctrl + shift + space)

So as a conclusion - this issue includes :

• Adding an intro animations (or something) + small walkthrough
• Add a setting sections
• in setting sections can have 2 options as of now
  • Modify/ view nickname
  • Modify/ view global shortcut

Ok so list of task includes:-

• Adding a welcome UI/ startup animation
• Adding a guide on "How to use Pathfinder"/ walkthrough to existing features
• A form input that lets user assign a Nickname and save it in setting(tauri.conf.json)
• Add a setting sections that gives a UI to change settings by modifying tauri.conf.json
• Setting section will currently include Modify/ view Nickname and Modify/view global shortcut
• In future setting can include other feature like default Theme, default browser

Questions

• I am planning to use Tailwind CSS for the upcoming UI design work. Please let me know if that’s acceptable, otherwise I can continue using standard CSS.
